Eva's birthday balloons...released Thursday, April 17th, 2008 - 1 month birthday...

5 balloons...for 5 days...for the 5th member of our family...

Happy Birthday Baby Girl!

One whole month already!

It doesn't seem like it's even been that long.

So much has happened and it seems as if time has just stood still.

But at the same time it seems like the world has just been spinning super fast and outta control...

How is that?

I miss her so much. I wish she were here. With me, with us...

At one month, if she were still here, would we even have noticed that it was a month today?

Or would we have just been so busy w/ a newborn that we would have never been counting the days as I am now...

So strange to feel so empty handed but w/ a heart so full of love for a tiny little being.

So happy to have had the 5 days, 18 hours and 10 minutes...

So thankful that it was nothing less...

So sad that it was nothing more...

So perfect...

So small, so sweet, so soon...

Oh how I miss my baby girl today.

I love you Eva more than you could ever imagine and I miss you just as much!

I miss you Eva more than you could ever imagine and I love you just as much!

I will see you again baby girl...sooner than later, I hope!

In His Time...baby girl...not mine!

Mommy loves you...WE ALL LOVE YOU!

More on her name...

More on the meaning of Eva's name...

Previous post...

Her name has been chosen (Tuesday, November 6, 2007)

EVA JANETTE

EVA = life; living one...

JANETTE = God is Gracious...

And after Vinnie's Mom Janet and his friend EJ
(both of which he lost several years ago)...

Also mentioned in this post too! (copied and pasted below)

(Saturday the 22nd marks 18 years since Vinnie's Mom passed. Eva's middle name is Janette because of her grandma Janet waiting in Heaver for her...making Eva's initials EJ for Vinnie's best friend EJ who passed at the mere age of 18. Are these coincidences? 18 and 18? Will grandma Janet be waiting Saturday w/ open arms to hold her granddaughter? The first of her four grandchildren that she will meet?)

The following was brought to my attention today:
EJ was life-flighted to this hospital cause him mom worked here and wanted him here...this is where he passed.
Eva weighed 4lbs 11ozs, EJ's favorite song was "411"...AND...
Eva's Neonatologist said today (called me on her day off) that Eva has TRISOMY 18... Hmmm...
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
AND...I also came to the conclusion (yesterday - 4/15/08) that Eva was 18 inches long!

Call me a moron but I am always looking so deep into EVERYTHING!

NUMBERS!

Janet was born on the 12th and EJ on the 21st.

Janet passed away on the 22nd, Eva on the 23rd and EJ on the 24th...

I know...it means nothing...but I found it interesting...

Teddy Bear...

As I said in a previous post the brown bear would have its own post...well here you have it!

We purchased this brown bear at my first 3D/4D ultrasound appointment back in December.

Now this was no ordinary bear. This bear has a device inside...something very special...it has a heartbeat...and not just any heartbeat...it has my baby girl's heartbeat.

Yep, that's right...it has Eva's heartbeat inside.

So at those times when my mind and my heart want to go back to those pregnant days w/ my baby girl safely inside of me...I can give the bear a little squeeze.

I used to listen to her heartbeat so very often, it was always so reassuring when she was a little less active or when Mya would ask to hear it...we would sit together and use the doppler that I had purchased off of Ebay (then Dom and Mya would insist they didn't have hearts cause they couldn't hear it...silly kids, they didn't realize that they needed the gel)!

Everyone, including doctors, would laugh when I would tell them that I bought my own doppler...what was so funny? I bought it before I knew there was even anything wrong. I guess I just had that feeling...that I would need something to reassure me, daily, that I was indeed pregnant. I hated to have to wait 4 weeks to go back to appointments to hear the heartbeat...so I bought my own doppler. And oh how happy I am that I did. And now I have it and can use it again somewhere later on in life.

So anyways, back to my bear...I wanted to wait to share the details on him until I got the sweater in the mail. I obviously had to wait till Eva was born to order it.

Oh how precious it is! It is such a heavy material and not some cheap stuff. I love it! I wish I had a bear for Dominic and Mya too. What a keep sake especially due to the circumstances.

Eva's heart can still be heard and felt even though there is some distance between us...

I love you baby girl!

Three weeks and counting...

Three weeks ago at this very moment that her heart beat its last beat...Oh, how I'd give everything in me to feel her against my chest one more time... How do I love this baby girl so much when it was such a short amount of time spent w/ her? Oh the things i wish I would have done in that time span...but I can't help but think how perfect every moment w/ her was spent.

We miss Eva more than anyone could ever imagine and we love her just as much. But we are doing pretty good. We talk about her w/ everyone, and I mean others out there in the world, family and friends...as well as perfect strangers. Her legacy lives on! It will never die. I won't let it!

We had a great day. Soccer for Mya...Football for Dominic. Cemetery w/ my mom...Dinner w/ family and friends...then a late night spent w/ those same family and friends...and yes, we just got home. We had a great day. I love those people. The ones that mean the most...the ones that truly care...and the ones that I couldn't live w/out. I don't just say this cause I know their reading (tee hee)...I say this because it's true. The ones that allow me to talk freely about my baby girl who is still and always will be a part of our family. The ones that listen, even when it's hard to hear. The ones that will talk about her too...cry w/ me if I want to cry, laugh w/ me if I want to laugh and eat w/ me if I just wanna eat! I love you guys!

Don't get me wrong the empty arms still hurt. So many things during each day make me think of Eva...and tears are still shed but I am doing very well. God has truly blessed me more than words could describe and I am thankful. God knew the desires of my heart and knew exactly what I needed and gave me above and beyond. I know this. And God still knows the desires of my heart and I know that in time, in His time, all will be fulfilled. Thank you Jesus. Thank you Jesus for giving Eva to me.

Praying for the strength to make it today, through each and everyday as I have thus far. Praying!

Tongue Twister?

Oh how I prayed that we would have Eva w/ us for a long time. I prayed that we would have at least 10 days cause that's how many outfits we had waiting for her...and then I said no, I want more than 10 days...I want to be able to take daily pictures and post them like Tristan and Jacob. Although we didn't have as many days as we all wanted we did have those 5 and managed to take near 200 pictures.

I have my camera on me every where I go, including the cemetery. I take at least 2 pictures of "my baby girl" each and every day. And some of the sky and/or whatever else seems worthy of a pic... it's okay...you can call me crazy.

So w/ that said...

Eva's Easter Egg has been Eaten!

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Friday, March 28th, 2008
(the rain took the egg from blue to white - and something ate Eva's roses!)

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008 (one week - the egg is still there)

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 (two weeks - the egg is still there)

Thursday, April 10th, 2008 (something ate the egg)

Thursday, April 10th, 2008 (and shelled it pretty nicely too)

Poor animal probably had diarrhea all over the cemetery that night...cause that egg was OLD!

Mya colored that Easter Egg at Aunt Barbie's house and brought it in to Eva at the hospital that Saturday night (March 22nd, 2008) before Easter.

It had Eva's name on it...

I left it at the cemetery on Wednesday, March 26th, 2008 - the day Eva was buried.

Oh, how horrible it is...

to have no belly...

and no baby...

oh how I miss both so very much tonight...

Quote of the Day...

This is for my Eva...cause her life did it all.

April 10, 2008

Quote of the Day

"I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be honorable, to be compassionate. It is, after all, to matter: to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you lived at all."
– Leo Rosten

Wow, look what I found...

This was Vinnie and I at my cousins wedding 5/6/2000 (pregnant w/ Mya)...I turned 21 the next day!
These next two are my dad and Dominic...(Yes, it's really my dad...and he's single ladies...lol)!
The above is Vinnie's family...this was obviously before Eva (way before Eva) and nephew Jacob.
The rest are self explanatory...Boy have Dominic and Mya grown! Time sure does fly...
Oh how I wish I had Eva here w/ me to do the same pictures every few months and each year.

Report Cards Are In!

Despite the past six months my children still managed to keep there grades up. I was worried about them when it came to school, as you know from previous posts, the grades were a big part of it. Although the school year isn't over quite yet, I have full faith in both kids and my God that we will manage to make it...

Dominic - 6th grade at our junior high!
(Do you see the High Honor Roll along the bottom)!!!

Mya - 2nd grade at our elementary school!

Do I come off as the proud parent or what???

She would have been 3 weeks today...

Today was another "good" day. Three in a row, not too bad. Yesterday, yes I did cry...and more than just once, but it still was a good day.

Just a few pictures I wanna share from today...

My daughters...
(Mya took this herself, can ya tell?) After I was finished taking a few pics at the cemetery, as I do every day, Mya asked if she could take some too. I said okay and I walked back to the van to wait for her. Vinnie was unstuffing envelopes, don't ask, so I helped count and waited for Mya as she walked from Eva to grandma Janet and then back to Eva all the while taking pictures. She musta tried at least 3 times or so to get this one because I looked up to see what she was doing and after a few "tries" she gave Vinnie and I the "thumbs up". She had gotten a good one!
Too cute. Sad, but cute! She loves her baby sister...

This was the sky today while at the cemetery. Don't know bout you but I see an E, a V and an A...All sort over lapping? Kinda neat if ya ask me...(the right side of the V is faint)

And this would be our new bedding. We've had it since Thanksgiving but wanted to wait until Eva was born to switch, not sure why. So w/ hopes that we were home w/ Eva, that week she was born, I told Vinnie that I wanted them to be freshly washed (I hate stiff new sheets) and put on the day I was coming home from the hospital.
Obviously, this didn't happen. Little did we know that Vinnie would remain at the hospital that entire week w/ me. Thanking God that he was able to stick it out sleeping on the "wanna be" pull out couch, eating cafeteria food all week and going outside to smoke in the frigid weather having to walk so far to get out during the after visiting hours...then again, who am I kidding...I AM the one that gave birth, via c-section at that, had milk coming in and was massively engorged and longed to hold my baby girl more than machines would allow...

Anyways, I washed the bedding today and we assembled the bed tonight...nothing like nice new clean sheets! And I washed them in Dreft too. It's okay if I wanna smell that baby smell even though she is not physically here...

And the teddy bear, the big brown one...It'll have its own post soon! ;)

The smaller dog was bought for me by Mya (w/ the help of pappy Jim) from the gift shop that week when Eva was born...

And the tiny angel bear was the one in the bassinet w/ Eva at the hospital in the NICU that says Miracles Happen.

So true, so true...they sure do!

*****Can you tell which side of the bed is mine?*****

I am a Christian...it's likely the "COWARD" is not...

Christians

by Maya Angelou - Copyright 1988 Carol Wimmer

"A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ
that a man should have to seek Him first to find her."

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'"
I'm whispering "I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say... "I am a Christian" I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible but, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I still feel the sting of pain..
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace, somehow!

And it is because I am a Christian that I chose LIFE for my daughter who was wanted and planned and thought of before she was conceived...not only by me and Vinnie and Mya...Dominic wasn't too fond of another sibling lol...but Eva was also thought of by her Heavenly Father probably at the same time that I was thought of before my parents conceived.

And ONLY my Heavenly Father knew that Eva would be here on Earth on March 17th, 2008 @ 8:47 AM...and ONLY He knew that she would be called Home early Easter Sunday morning, March 23rd, 2008 @ 2:57 AM.

HE KNEW ALL OF THIS. He knew it all when we knew nothing. And I trusted in Him that ONLY HE would and could carry me thru the darkest hours of those days until I finally got to meet my precious baby girl. And it was HIM who held me in HIS arms that night two weeks ago as I held my baby girl against my bare chest until she breathed her last breath and until her heart beat no more.

I was at peace that night.

I wasn't freaking out like you may think I was or would have been. No, it was Him who calmed all my fears. I told her during those last few moments that it was okay to go. If it was her time than it was okay to go Home. I told her how much we love her and how much she'd be missed.

I trust God with all that I have in me...because only He knows what's best for me...not the coward who thinks that I should have chose a different path.

MY GOD is bigger than you "coward" and MY GOD is bigger than trisomy 18...and that is why I say today, tomorrow and until eternity that I will do it again!

God you are awesome and amazing and w/out you I am nothing. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for you. I thank you! I thank you for allowing me to be Eva's mommy. I thank you for choosing and trusting ME w/ her life and not the coward who would have killed her.

I thank you! And I love you Lord!

Today has been a good day...

I have to say that today has been a better day. I was able to get out to Mya's soccer game and to do a few other things out amongst the world and I have to say it felt okay. Even if it was just going to the YMCA to sign Dominic up for flag football or to go to Walgreen's to pick up more pictures of my precious Eva or to Arby's for fast food...it still felt better to feel the air on my face than to have my face smashed against my pillow all day.

After Mya's game I left the field by myself w/ all intentions on stopping the few places and then working my way to the cemetery. I have yet to make it there today. I will, later...I just figured I'd wait since I wasn't sure if it would upset me or not and I was "up" for the most part so I'll try and stay "up" as long as I can.

Then...I come to check my email. I love to see a full mailbox w/ the comment notifications from people who care. As I mentioned in previous posts...I need my space. Yes, this is true but I also said that it's okay for people to email, text or even comment on my blog to express themselves and to let us know that they are still reading and still thinking about us and still praying for us. Just because Eva has been born and died doesn't mean that our journey ends there. It is like the next chapter has just begun. What I don't want it the continued phone calls and the random "pop" ins...I'm just not up for that quite yet, then again I never really am into that anyways.

So w/ that said...I read the following comment from the ever so kind anonymous coward...

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "So tired...":

U do come off harsh! Your mother is only trying to be there for you, thats sad that you chewed her out. Whats really sad is you CHOSE this road, u knew the outcome when she was diagnosed, look online this is not a curable disease eventually babies die. That might be hard to hear but its the truth. U brought it on yourself when u chose to cont with the pregnancy, u knew it would be a hard road. Your loved ones are being there for YOU u should NOT push them away, how rude!

EVA = life; living one... JANETTE = God is Gracious... at April 5, 2008 2:02 PM

I have to say for a brief moment the devil tried to sneak in. And I say brief cause I mean brief. But then my God allowed me to quickly feel that peace that I felt throughout the day. I will not let you, whoever you are, bring me down...not today...not ever. And you are nothing but a coward who couldn't let yourself be known. It's okay. That is why the world is the way it is. Because of people like you. But because of God...there are people like me and the others who have made up for your ignorant words by commenting after you and about what you had said.

Those who know me and know my Mom know that we are not close. And know that on a regular basis, pregnant w/ Eva or not, losing Eva or not...that I have always kept my distance. So now is really no different. I have just expressed it more now than ever to EVERYONE, not just my Mom, to give me some time...I wasn't rude to my Mother on the phone yesterday nor did I chew her out...I just simply expressed how I know that Eva is in a better place but hearing those words doesn't help make it all better...nor do I want to hear those words. I just want to be left alone until I'm ready to face the world. It might take me a day, a week, a month or a year...NO ONE can force me to do anything that I am not willing or wanting or able to do.

So as for pushing people away...those who love me...I'm not. I am simply asking for a little respect during that hardest days of my life. This is not too much to ask for. I knew this wasn't an easy path to choose. I did my research. But I will tell the coward and the world that I would do it all over again...and again...and again...and again. If I by chance am blessed by God and become pregnant again...and if I am ever so bless to be hand chosen by God to once again be the mommy to another special baby I will do it all over again! I promise! NO ONE could tell me back on that Friday morning, September 28th, 2008 that Eva was going to live 5 days, 18 hours and 10 minutes...NO ONE! And I wouldn't change the last 6 months and 8 days of my life for anything!

Have you ever wished you could flee?

Friday April 04

This week's promise: God cares for the persecuted

Have you ever wished you could flee?

Oh, how I wish I had wings like a dove; then I would fly away and rest! I would fly far away to the quiet of the wilderness. How quickly I would escape—far away from this wild storm of hatred. Psalm 55:6-8 NLT

Nothing great was ever done without much enduring .
Catherine of Siena

Resist flight

David was a man after God's own heart and a great, anointed king. But in many ways, he was just like us. Psalm 55 is an example. When the pressure was on, David just wanted to run away.

All of us have had similar urges. When life gets intense and troubles seem to offer no way out, we just want to get out of the situation. Every Christian who has been prepared by God and stretched to his or her limits can relate: There are times when we would do anything if God would just remove us from our trial. We'll pray for ways of escape, but God often leaves us surrounded until His time is right.

God has no scorn for such feelings. He made us and He knows our frailties. He understands our impulse to flee from whatever difficulties we face. But He also insists on our endurance, because it has spiritual results that nothing else can accomplish. And there is no way to learn endurance other than simply to endure. We can't learn it in principle or in theory; only pain can teach it to us.

The good news for those who go through intense trials and suffering is that once the impulse to flee is broken, God delivers. When endurance is complete, God removes the tribulation we endured. Every fear is followed by blessing (Psalm 55:4-8, 16-18). Our God does not leave us in our troubles. He has put us there to discover His provision; He will not withhold it indefinitely. There will be a day of deliverance.

So tired...

I am so very thankful for all of the cards and the meals and the calls and the texts...I am. I truly am. So please don't take this the wrong way...all of you...but I am so tired of it all. None of it makes me feel better. None of it makes me happy. None of it brings Eva back. I know she is in a better place...but I don't want to hear that. I want her here. I want her w/ me. HERE on EARTH...Not in Heaven. She should be here. She should be in my arms...I know I will see her again someday. But that day is not today...and today is when I want to see her. Right now...I don't want to have to wait.

Mom, I'm sorry for upsetting you, or should I say I'm sorry for allowing you to upset me. I know that you mean well and never meant to make me cry but these days it happens so easily.

So again, I say it w/out meaning to hurt anyones feelings. PLEASE give me my space. I know some of you out there have experienced a loss. Whether it be a loved one passing away or even a break-up in a relationship. I would have called you once and if I didn't hear back I would have left you alone and given you your space. I am sure someday I will come back around but that likely won't be anytime soon. I don't mind the every so often calls and the messages or the random texts or the emails...but please don't hound me or just "pop" in on me.

Again, I'm sorry if I am coming off strong but it hurts more to be bothered when I just need time...alone...to heal and to grieve.

This week's promise...&...Quote of the Day...

April 03, 2008
Quote of the Day
"I have learned, as a rule of thumb, never to ask whether you can do something. Say, instead, that you are doing it. Then fasten your seat belt. The most remarkable things follow."– Julia Cameron

Thursday April 03
This week's promise: God cares for the persecuted

Do you have a support group?

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two men can stand back-to-back and conquer.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 NLT

A faithful friend is a strong defense; and he that hath found him hath found a treasure.
Louisa May Alcott

The strength of the huddle

When I asked Mike what he missed most about pro football, I was surprised by his answer. He said it was getting into the huddle. You felt safe there, he said. It was where you could get direction, support, and correction. It was where you could regroup for the next phase of the battle, knowing 10 other guys were there to help you win.

Mike said the huddle was a real refuge during away-games in hostile stadiums, when, besides the team, they were fighting a negative environment. It was a place where they could return to for encouragement to keep going.

Every man needs a safe place to get what he needs to enter into life's conflict. If a man's going to survive—no, win—the battles of life, he must have a huddle of good men around him to cheer him on and bandage his wounds. He needs men who will celebrate with him in the good times and do whatever it takes to bring help and healing in the bad times.
Rodney L. Cooper in Shoulder to Shoulder

The writer of Ecclesiastes paints a depressing picture of a man who strives to gain the whole world alone, then asks himself, "Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?" The writer concludes, "It is all so meaningless and depressing" (Ecclesiastes 4:8). How much better it is to go through life with a strong network of support. When you share your trials and triumphs with others, you soon realize that you're not alone. And somehow, when we stand together, life's challenges don't seem so daunting anymore.

Prayer Request!

Please pray for Gwyneth's mommy tonight as she is under going a double lung transplant as I type.

Is it normal?

It seems like each day only gets worse and not better. Last Tuesday during Eva's visitation I seemed to be doing so well. I am sure that everyone there was amazed at me smiling and able to speak and so calm. I came to the conclusion that that was because I must have known inside that I would be seeing her again on Wednesday for her service. Wednesday was a different story. It was so much harder knowing that I wouldn't see her again for likely a long long time. Not to mention how hard it was for me to see Dominic and Mya so upset.

Poor Mya...a sight I will never forget...We all met in the little chapel for a brief service. Then we preceded to Eva's grave site. I was able to carry her (closed casket) to her final resting place, which meant a lot to me. I carried her for 9 months and into this world and then carried her out, kind of sort of. We stood and watched as her body, in the casket, was placed into the ground and the grave was closed. Talk about closure, at least to us it was. And Mya...on her knees, face to the ground just sobbing. She told us to let her have some alone time w/ her sister. Oh how my heart broke all over again. She cried and cried hard, kissed the ground and took the time she needed. She stood up and walked towards us, got into the limo and was content. Something you never want to see...your daughter at your other daughters grave crying and declaring how she wants more time...

Let me back up a few...Tuesday's visitation was great. So many people have been touched by Eva's 5 brief days on this Earth and it was so obvious. Standing room only in the funeral home that day. Over 220 people paid a visit and their respect to a baby girl who most never met in person until then.

I have tried to upload the slide show w/out success but will continue to try.

I know some people were surprised to see our baby girl in an open casket. But please understand why we opted for this...we wanted to see her ourselves before making the decision as to open or closed. And when we saw how beautiful she was, tube free, needle free and tape free...to see her whole face and nose and lips was so much prettier than ever before that we wanted the world to see. She was still precious w/ all the tubes, needles and tape but the pics displaying that did her no justice. So we hope you understand our reasoning behind the decision to have it open. Regardless, if it were closed...you all knew what lied beneath. The tiny shoebox sized casket would have been just as hard to see...I am glad that all were able to see the beautiful, miracle of God and the peacefulness that came along w/ her.

So back to where we are today...

Everyone seems to be doing well. As we all know the world isn't going to stop for me...even though I really wish it would. The past two weeks went by too fast. I almost feel as if I am still pregnant. My daily routine hasn't even changed and I still have minor stomach discomfort. I stay in bed all day. Besides helping get the kids off to school, and I barley do that, I lay on my left side, hand on the mouse at the computer and remain there until I need to get up to go to the bathroom. At that time I get something to eat and drink, take a shower and put on clean pj's and climb back into bed. My motivation for the day...is getting out of bed to get the kids from daycare, hit the so conveniently located Dairy Queen, which we pass going to the cemetery (we've gone everyday)...all of which I do in my pj's. Today I even went into the grocery store in my pj's. I dread seeing those who knew I was pregnant. Those who are likely going to ask where the new baby is...like the phone call I got yesterday. The man on the other end said..."I just got word of your delivery...congratulations on your baby girl...what did you name her?"...(insurance company, I think...wanting to add Eva to my policy?) I proceed w/ the "my baby passed away"...He quickly blurted out something along the lines of being a blubbering fool and apologized for bothering me at this time and said goodbye. I lost it. Glad Vinnie was next to me to hold me...oh how horrible this is.

So as I sit here tonight feeling miserable I think these feelings are normal. Normal for both the postpartum blues as well as having no physical baby to show for it all. I am thankful and grateful to those who care and who call and are likely worried about me...but please...please understand that yes, it has been a week since we buried our daughter but I still need more time. Time to gather my thoughts and to take in all that has occurred w/in the past two weeks and two days. Believe it or not it still hasn't really even set in.
