Eva's Notice...
COPPOLELLA
EVA JANETTE
On Sun. Mar. 23, 2008 at 2:57am, Eva earned her wings. She went from her Mother's chest to the arms of her Heavenly Father. The fifth member of her family, Eva was a blessing from God for 5 whole days, 18 whole hours and 10 whole minutes. She is now healed and has been made whole! All in His timing! She is survived by her parents, Chrissy and Vinnie, brother Dominic and sister Mya. Granddaughter of Albert Gazzo, Ruth Mullennix, James and the late Janet Coppolella. Great granddaughter of Donice Fogle. Niece of Barbie and Rick Zapata and cousin of Zach and Jake. Also survived by numerous family and friends. Those touched by Eva are encouraged to join her family in the celebration of her life on Tues. 2-4 & 7-9pm at SOXMAN FUNERAL HOMES, LTD./ ROTH CHAPEL 7450 Saltsburg Road (at Universal Rd). Penn Hills, 412-793-3000, where a service will be held Wed., time TBA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to:
The Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation,
7800 S Elati St. #111
Littleton, CO 80120.
I know this might come as a shock to myblog family but don't allow it to. Eva and Mya have Vinnie's last name, I do not. Therefore, you'll notice her last name is Coppolella. The hospital always give the baby (while admitted) Mom's last name.

Eva has earned her wings...
Peacefully from my chest to His arms and then to grandma Janet's @ 2:57am.
She indeed made it Home for Easter! Her Home!
We walked thru the front door of our home at 5:27am indeed a family of 5!
Thanking Jesus for the time we had!
5 whole days
18 whole hours
10 whole minutes
She has been healed and made WHOLE! And all in His timing!

Things are looking a little better...
As always I'm gonna try and make this short as I am physically draining myself. The late nights updating, up throughout the night to sit w/ my precious baby girl is priceless although I need to make time for myself to heal. I am barely eating, still taking some pain meds and on my feet all day. My ankles look like they belong on an elephant! I thank you for praying for my healing as well. A c-section is no picnic...but I wouldn't have had it any other way!
Eva is doing better than earlier. Her breathing became very strenuous and you could see the struggle. It wasn't long before she was comfortable w/ meds but she was then sort of in a daze and her numbers were still low. I truly thought that it wouldn't be long before she left our arms to His...but obviously God has other plans and Eva continues to fight (fight like in just not ready to go yet, not fight like she's in pain because she is not). My little warrior! The meds help w/ the pain and settle her and help w/ her breathing. The meds last maybe an hour or a little more. We were worried she'd need them continuously but they seem to have worn off and she is still calm and content. We think she plummeted due to numerous things...the nurse says several visitors (not that she was being held but I guess just the talking over her can stress her out a bit - this is surprising to me cause there are many a noises in the NICU you'd think that would stress her too), her temp was extremely low which could have been a factor as well...and I personally think it was due to the change of her oxygen levels (just my guess cause it was up then they took it down then she went down so they put it back up and so on).
So as of now she is stable. Heart rate is up and breathing is okay, could be better...praying for this to improve. Temp had gotten too high now so praying for regulation there as well. Praying for a peacful night for all of us...Eva, Vinnie and I.
God has taught me today to "Be Still"...likely meaning continue to live in the moment, each moment that he has and continues to give us. I was so trilled w/ where we were today that I was looking ahead to Monday. Oh how fast things can change and I have seen that tonight. I will try hard to be still. I will continue to cherish each and every second. I will deal w/ Monday when we get there...no hurries, no worries...baby steps have gotten us here we will continue to move forward w/ baby steps. You cannot ask for patience you must earn them. Well I am learning to earn them.
Praising God for again another day. As we approach Eva's 6 day birthday I sit in aw at all that we have been blessed with. As always His timing will be perfect but it doesn't hurt to continue to ask for more time. Hey if I asked for poop and got poop I'll continue to ask for more time!
Praying for a good stable night. And for many more days and nights to love on and take in our miracle baby girl. What an Easter miracle she is!
Many many more pics to come...it takes a while to do and I am just too tired tonight. Soon...I promise.
Dominic held his baby sister! Praise God for that! He was willing and wanting to do so. Praying for more cuddles from Dom and Mya too! Dad held more today too! Hallelujah!

Came to my heart tonight...so I sang it to her...
Thy Word
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path;
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
When I feel afraid,
think I've lost my way
Still You're there right beside me
And nothing will I fear,
As long as You are near
Please be near me to the end.
I will not forget
Your love for me and yet
My heart forever is wandering
Jesus be my guide,
Hold me to your side
And I will love You to the end.

Struggling...PLEASE PRAY!
Eva is having a tough time breathing as of now.
PLEASE PRAY!
Doc has increased med to get the fluid off of her lungs and has given her something to make her a little more comfy.
PLEASE BE ON YOUR KNEES FOR US!
Trying to get Dominic and Mya in to hold her as I type. I'll be back as soon as I can be.
Praying for God's perfect timing as we have been!

She got her first feed!!!
Since she pooped she was able to get her first feed through a tube and she went nuts!
WE GOT POOP!
I prayer for poop and we got it! Thank you Jesus. And a big one at that! I'll talk w/ doc in morning and maybe we can get another scan of tummy/intestines to see if things have improved!
I asked her nurse to call me prior to giving meds for tummy discomfort to see if I could soothe her first (even though I seem to irritate her more most times). Her nurse called at about 5:55am, I jumped outta my skin to the ringing phone...w/ my heart on the floor. She was fussy.
After a few moments of her crying and monitors beeping all over the place...all it took was an up on the shoulder snuggle w/ mommy. Oh, how I loved that (this position was a first) and wished I had brought the camera! Praying to have that moment again later on today. So again and answered prayer!
God you are so very wonderful!
Maybe God just isn't ready for lil miss Eva yet. Or maybe he knows that I needed that snuggle time. Or maybe Eva has more to tell the world and ain't leaving till she does so. Whichever it may be I have gotten more answers. So again, I will keep the requests coming.
I have asked God numerous times "where are you" ? "Please reveal yourself to me".."And to Vinnie"...And Oh how he has! More than ever! I told my "big sister" Dawn the other day that yes, I know that God provides miracles. I have always heard but have never seen...Oh, how I have seen! With my own eyes!
Please Lord don't stop here...

Wow, another day has passed!
And again, Eva has not!
We really never thought today would truly be "Good" Friday...and to think now that it was a "Great" Friday!
Eva has had an okay day. A little more fussy but we think that she is feeling a tad bit better and has realized all the poking that all are doing to her and just simply wants left alone. Her belly seems to be bothering her which is likely due to her intestinal issues. She doesn't like to be messed with that's for sure! She hates to have her head rubbed! She has a teeny tiny dimple on her left cheek, teeny like the tip of a pen...it is too cute when she decides to show it. Her lips tend to get try cause she is a mouth breather like dad and big sis so I have been putting "lip gloss" on her...(aka Vaseline - tee hee). I have changed 3 diapers, WAHOO! None poopy though. Tomorrow I will get to assist w/ her bath. Looking forward to this...and will drag dad alone too, even if just to be our photographer. Dad gets real nervous when the machines beep so this ought to be interesting.
Adding to my post yesterday...this is what I had originally said:
(Saturday the 22nd marks 18 years since Vinnie's Mom passed. Eva's middle name is Janette because of her grandma Janet waiting in Heaver for her...making Eva's initials EJ for Vinnie's best friend EJ who passed at the mere age of 18. Are these coincidences? 18 and 18? Will grandma Janet be waiting Saturday w/ open arms to hold her granddaughter? The first of her four grandchildren that she will meet?)
The following was brought to my attention today:
EJ was life-flighted to this hospital cause him mom worked here and wanted him here...this is where he passed.
Eva weighed 4lbs 11ozs, EJ's favorite song was "411"...
AND...Eva's Neonatologist said today (called me on her day off) that Eva has TRISOMY 18...
Hmmm...
As for today, March 22nd...we will be living in the moment as we have been all week and ever since September 28th!
(please pray for Vin and his family as today will already be a tough day full of meaningful memories of his mom)
Real quick, as I need to get some sleep...if I am spelling things wrong, bare w/ me. It is usually 2 am when I am typing these...in the dark...plus lack of sleep, lack of eating (due to my own lack of appetite), and spell check has a mind of its own at times.
We are still at the hospital as the plans to leave and transfer to TIC http://www.childrenshomepgh.org/chp.asp?SectionID=2 (here's where we were to go...you'll see why) fell through for today. Not because of us nor Eva...
The transfer was to be early this morning but there was come confusion. The doc here needed to check w/ them on the "food" that Eva is getting via IV to make sure they could supply it. Turns out they can but couldn't till Monday. After hearing this and thinking on it we had come to terms that it would have been okay to still go.
Then, the doc here said that we could not go there w/out signing a DNR (do not resuscitate order). This was NOT what we wanted. We do want basic CPR preformed (chest compressions and breaths/mask/bag) but do not want her put on another vent, meds nor shocking. We wanted to have in place something that we would be doing ourselves if we were at home. So again, we discussed and came to terms w/ the agreement that we would sign the DNR. This is TIC policy being that we would be going there for hospice care. We also would not be having monitors at TIC like we do here. Even though the monitors make Vinnie and the kids nervous (and me at times) we weren't really liking these terms but were at peace w/ our decision to go knowing that when God says it's time, it's time...not matter what. And we know that the monitors are not keeping her alive. TIC does not have docs on staff 24/7, just doing rounds once daily. WE needed to be there by 3pm to see the admitting doc...so we needed to get the ball rolling.
So at 12:30 all seemed to be in order. The doc here went to lunch as the doc at TIC was trying to call him to confirm all of this. So we paged the our doc (neonatologist) here. At 1:20pm our doc came in and asked if we were sure we wanted to go. We said yes. He says..okay well we have a slight problem and can't get you there till Monday.
WHAT?!?!? I couldn't even cry at this point! I couldn't believe my ears! Turns out that the doc at TIC's mom was rushed to the hospital (pray for Dr. G's mom, I do not know her nor her mom but know it was an emergency). And there is no transport nurse on the weekend nor do admissions likely occur on weekends. (All is supposedly in place for Monday, if we still want to go and if we see Monday).
It didn't take long for me to rest assured and feel at peace again. We just weren't supposed to go there today. Maybe we aren't supposed to go there at all. God will lead us as only He has all along. And I know this. So we are like I said still at the hospital. I was discharged yesterday. Last night we had the nesting room but tonight we have a patient room. Nesting is for sure better but no complaints here. We weren't kick out and are not paying for a hotel room. God is so good! Eva is still being monitored, we still have our CPR (if needed) in place and Eva is comfortable and has her "food" all weekend. Our God is an awesome God!
We had several visitors tonight as we know we are not promised tomorrow. We pray to see 12:01am tomorrow night/Sunday morning but again living in this moment...2am Saturday morning!
Please continue to pray for the obvious. Heart, lungs, intestines and brain. Her belly seems to be bothering her more. Praying for things to flow the way they are supposed to and to be easy on her tummy. And a praise...she suffers from NO apnea! Praise Jesus!
We love you all and are thankful for all of the prayers and support! We could not have come this far and neither could Eva if it wasn't for Our Almighty God carrying us through this storm. We know that there will be beautiful sunshine after this storm. Praising God for his perfect timing and for knowing the desires of our hearts. He knows just what we need and how much time to give us. And we praise Him for that!
I am okay if we don't make it home...for Easter...or even at all. That was my biggest prayer request but I didn't know the extent of Eva's condition either. I know how hard it would be for Vinnie and Dominic and even Mya to be at home and to watch Eva leave my arms to enter the gates of Heaven. If I were going home alone (just me and Eva)...likely I might have gone today. But I want Vinnie to be at ease w/ this as well as the kids...so I am at peace if we do not make it home. But no matter what...we will walk through our front door a family of 5 indeed! That is for sure!
And again, Eva has not!

Another Eva Update...
Well, here we are! Day 3 has just completed and we approach the beginning of day 4. Praising God that she is still here w/ us. I have been asking God to give us more time as well as specifics and we are being blessed w/ both.
The specifics today were for Eva to have an easy insertion of a new central line and an easy transition from the vent to c-pap to cannula. All were answered prayers.
We had Eva dedicated by our pastor and could feel God's presence in all that we faced throughout the entire day.
Our reason for these transitions was because we were trying to leave the hospital to go into the transitional care home in our area for hospice type care, before attempting to make it home. The TIC home will not take a patient on a vent nor c-pap because they do not have the equipment to support such. So we had to attempt to get Eva weaned from the vent to the c-pap to a high pressure cannula as our wishes were to be out of the hospital setting hopefully before Easter. We were unsure how she would do w/ these transitions and were not in a hurry to get where we wanted her but did want our preferred doctor to be here with us.
Originally we were told that we could get to the TIC today if Eva did well enough to be transported. Then, we find out that they want patients to be off of vents for 2 days before the switch! This was a surprise. They then said that they would take her tomorrow morning (Friday) instead of waiting an entire two days. So again, we were given more time and never felt rushed. But we did want to get Eva to the cannula today and not wait until morning in case TIC wanted to again lay down any unforeseen rules.
Eva went from the vent to the c-pap to the cannula very smoothly. And all w/in a few hours w/ our neonatologist present the entire time (who gave me her cell # before she left). Eva is still doing pretty well on the cannula and it is now 12:30am. Mya was able to hold her again and Dominic was able to get as close as he wanted. So nice to see her w/ less on and in her, to enjoy seeing her precious little face.
I sat and talked to her, sang to her and prayed with her for a long time tonight. I was able to discuss the possibility of her going to heaven very soon w/ both kids and explained to them the ticket on how to get there to see her again. Both are saved and had asked the Lord to be their Savior at separate times. Times that I wasn't even aware of until well after the fact but oh how thankful I am that they took that step and on their own at that! I also made them well aware of who is in Heaven waiting for Eva...from Vinnie's Mom to the many many others, so many to list (listing anyways...Molly, Eliot , Claire , Isaac, Madeline , Miller Grace, Copeland , Jonathan, Poppy Joy , Isabella , Tristan , Mary Grace , Maddox , Asher , Joshua ). Both Dominic and Mya of course cried which makes me weak but both understood what I was saying. And both left here tonight w/ specifics that they wanted to pray for.
(Saturday the 22nd marks 18 years since Vinnie's Mom passed. Eva's middle name is Janette because of her grandma Janet waiting in Heaven for her...making Eva's initials EJ for Vinnie's best friend EJ who passed at the mere age of 18. Are these coincidences? 18 and 18? Will grandma Janet be waiting Saturday w/ open arms to hold her granddaughter? The first of her four grandchildren that she will meet?)
We are praying that Eva stays stable throughout the night and is able to go to TIC in the morning. We are praying for the big things, for God to fix them (since he is the Ultimate Physician) like her heart and her lungs. And for her intestines. To remove the blockage, allow it to pass and/or extend the narrowing. This will allow us to feed her w/out causing a bigger problem. She is not starving, she is on IV nutrients. I made sure of this! But oh how I would live to tube feed her. To allow her to gain some weight and possibly allow her to progress the way that only she can.
The nurses are amazed at the supply of milk I have coming in and I barely pumped as I just didn't feel like it some of the time. They have joked the I have enough to feed the entire floor! I feel it for sure. I am trying to pump less in case I have to wean myself sooner than later but I never assumed that we wouldn't get her to feed so I have the beginning milk if and when she is ready for it.
Please stand w/ us in prayer for those specifics. I have asked for so much and have been blessed w/ so much. Why stop now? I serve a God of more than enough and he continues to shower us w/ just that. I won't quit now.
I Am a "Kept" Woman. We are a "kept" family!
I Am a "Kept" Woman.
You see, there were a few times when I thought I would lose my mind, but GOD kept me sane. (Isa. 26:3)
There were times when I thought I could go no longer, but the LORD kept me moving. (Gen 28:15)
At times, I've wanted to lash out at those whom I felt had done me wrong, but th e LORD kept my mouth shut. (Psa. 13)
Sometimes, I think the money just isn't enough, but GOD has helped me to keep the lights on, the water on, the car paid, the house paid, etc.., (Matt. 6:25 -34)
When I thought I would fall, HE kept me up. When I thought I was weak, HE kept me strong! (I Pet. 5:7, Matt. 11:28-30)
I could go on and on and on, but I'm sure you hear me! I'm blessed to be "kept."
